i have done as u said but when i am using mozilla there were no temporary files created in that folder where i located the new cache dir. please help me.

Or just: close FireFox; go to FireFox profile directory (normally something like c:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Application Data\Mozilla\FireFox\Profiles\[ProfileName]\); open in editor prefs.js file; locate the line with the option and delete it. Save file and start FireFox.

Found a solution. Type “about:config” in the browser window. Highlight the preference entry with the error, in this case “browser.cache.disk.parent_directory.” Right click, left click reset. The value should be empty. Close all browser windows. Then open new browser window. Type “about:config” again. The errant preference should me deleted as no value existed. Highlight any preference. Right click, cursor on New, left click String. Type in the preference desired, e.g., “browser.cache.disk.parent_directory.” Click OK. Next will prompt for value; type “X:\xxxx.” It is best to type some file rather than a root directory alone. Eureka! Worked for me. It was bad enough the original poster did not double-check the advice given, but to be so lazy as to let the error continue speaks volumes about character. The Mozilla forum has numerous articles for extensions and help, though this fix was not listed anywhere. Just got lucky.

If you move the cache using about:config, make sure you call it a “string” not an “integer” as related in the initial post. Calling it an integer will result in an errant entry that is extremely difficult to correct. I found out the hard way. Still trying to fix.

I was think of moving the my Firefox’s cache to a directory-folder which I’ve designated for web related stuff on a disk drive other than “C,” but when I put “about.config” into the address bar, Firefox looks for “http://about.config,” (and doesn’t find it, for there is not such url with a web page.) What to do?

For creating the new cache folder, browser.cache.disk.parent_directory, isn’t it a new “string” rather than an “integer” I accidentally created it as an integer and now I can’t get rid of the preference name as an integer.

thanks, used most of the tips including cg0def’s one. Working well with cache on Ram disk too
